TITLE:                               HEALTH ATTENDANT

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  High School Diploma or verifiable G.E.D.  Prefer valid state license as a practical nurse or registered nurse.  Previous health aide experience and EMT certification desirable.  Current CPR, First Aide and AED certification. 

              

REPORTS TO:  Principal

 

JOB GOAL:To pr  ovide a climate of health and well being for each district student and staff member by maintaining a total school health program.       

              

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Assists with or conducts school health service programs such as, but not limited to, vision screenings, hearing screenings, Scoliosis screenings and immunizations screenings.
  2. Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students, referring parents to Health Department or physicians when necessary.
  3. Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs. Refers students in need of medical and/or dental care to qualified personnel.
  4. Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters.
  5. Applies first aide to a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or

emergency illness.  Contacts paramedics for assistance if there is any doubt about the extent of the injury or illness.

  1. Participates with school staff in developing and implementing total school health

                              program.

  1. Contacts proper authorities (Child Protection Services or Local Police) regarding any case of child neglect or if abuse is suspected in accordance with State Law.
  2. Prepares and submits reports for the principal, superintendent and State Health Department in timely manner as required.
  3. Authorizes exclusions and re-admission of students in connection with infectious or contagious diseases in compliance with immunizations. Also advises on modification of the educational program to meet health needs of individual students.
  4. Participates in in-services and training programs.
  5. Assists the school secretary in compiling attendance reports, student cumulative records and any other reports that might due.
  6. Prepare records of students who have been inactive for two (2) years for permanent storage following District protocol.
  7. Performs all other duties as may be assigned.

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

              

Ten-month year.  Hourly rate and workdays to be established by the Board approved schedules.

 

EVALUATION:               Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Staff.
